This was arguably one of my favorite reads of 2025! Every word, each sentence and all paragraphs captured the essence of Anthony Bourdain, in all his glory. Often I found myself hearing his voice narrating the story in his characteristic iconoclastic, bordering on subversive style. He was an institution in the culinary world without a doubt, even before he featured in shows such as Parts Unknown and No Reservations (which are incidentally among my favorite culinary, travel shows of all time)!
Kitchen Confidential is undoubtedly worthy of respect for recounting the truth about the quirky, remarkable lives of those who prepare and cook our food in restaurants. Bourdain shines a light on the complicated, harsh underbelly of the culinary universe that we often overlook. He humanizes their experiences, and makes it relatable to the daily vicissitudes of own life struggles. His culinary journey, in many ways is a life lesson from which we all can glean valuable insights.
