This one reminded me of Neal Donald Walsh’s Conversations with God , especially with regards to the main protagonist’s issue with his father. Many of the spiritual concepts shared in The Shack are worthy of deeper reflection. In fact, while reading The Shack I had several thought-provoking discussions about spirituality, God and religion with one of my cousins in Trinidad, who incidentally loaned me the book. These conversations probably would never have happened without the stimulus from this book.
My main reason for giving this one 4 stars, is that at times it felt as though the author, Young, was pushing (or rather gently forcing) a specific agenda and religious doctrine on the reader with the story. So if that turns you off, perhaps this book is not for you. I would highly recommend this book to anyone with an open-mind who is on a spiritual journey and prepared to be challenged out of their comfort zone. Happy reading!
P.S. I recently watched the film on YouTube and highly recommend it as a companion to the book. It was quite a faithful representation which brought this story to life.
