For the record…I love(d) you because you are a true artist at heart. You genuinely care about aesthetics and creating things of great beauty. Like the scarf you knitted for me, with your own hands, which I cherish to this day.
And that’s not all, for the record…I love(d) you because you care deeply about others around you, and tirelessly sacrifice yourself to help them. You do this despite your own horrific experience growing up and all of the dreadful things that have happened to you in your life. I love(d) you and admire you immensely for this gift.
…I love(d) you for you. For everything you embody as a human being, including your flaws. I am not afraid of your darkness. This does not deter me, nor diminish my feelings for you. There are no qualifiers and conditionals in my heart.
I know it has taken me some time to formulate an answer to your question, at the airport, about why I love you. My first response was inadequate as I realize that, like you, I needed a lot of time to process all of my emotions and feelings, to be able to distill them into a coherent stream of thought. So please forgive me for not expressing this to you earlier.
And for the record…
…I would have given up everything for you – my house, my job, my way of life – for the chance to be with you. I never got the chance to tell you that. Even if it might not have changed anything for you, at least you deserve to know that.
And for the record…
I didn’t run away from you after your shared your life story. You told me quite vehemently that you wanted to be left alone. So I have abided by your request. Although it leaves me with no recourse.
And for the record…
I still love you and would marry you in a heartbeat. My love for you has not been extinguished. However, I have learned to bottle it up and bury it, out of respect for your wish to be left alone…
