This week was super special for me on the professional front. After over a decade and a half in the healthcare industry focused on doing high quality engineering work, I received recognition from my employer for my professional contributions in the intellectual property domain. Along with two other colleagues in my R&D department, I was honored with a patent invention award, for co-authoring over 25 technology patents. For this accomplishment I received a lovely, engraved silver medal, a lavish bouquet of flowers and a delicious cake (which was shared with my fellow awardees and our departmental colleagues).
I cherish this accomplishment dearly since I know that moments like these will only come around a handful of times in my career. It felt wonderful to have my contributions recognized after all these years of disciplined, hard work. I must confess that for a long time I have struggled with feeling less visible professionally, despite striving to consistently deliver excellence on the workfloor. So I feel a deep well of gratitude for this distinct honor which boosts not only to my professional credentials but also my confidence as a senior engineer.
One key learning from this experience that sticks with me is the importance of being patient. Good things, such as recognition, will come to you when the time is right. Hard work and conscientiousness does pay off in the long run, although it may not always happen on the timeline that you want. However, if you keep perservering and remain humble it will eventually come. I’m excited to see where the next decade of my professional (and writing) journey will take me. Stay tuned for more!
