As the tulips come into their yearly bloom and the suns warm embrace of the Northern Hemisphere grows ever closer by the day, it is a good moment to share another writing update. There is so much that has been going on this year that it at times is hard for me to keep track of all the balls in the air. From writing books to blogposts, to translating my work and establishing a social media presence, it has not been a busy start to 2025.
To keep you in the loop, I figured it might be good to share a few of the major highlights so far this year:
- Hijos de Dios Del Mar 🪶– I have been working the past few months on translating my debut fiction novel, Children of the Ocean God into spanish for my audience in Latin America! This writing project has been progressing steadily thanks to invaluable support and assistance of a dear friend, who is a native Spanish speaker. In fact it has been quite a rewarding challenge that has given me a different perspective on my writing, which I’m confident will help me to grow into a better writer.
- Warner’s Bacchanal 🤓– My sophomore historical fiction novel is now well under way! I have so far written four chapters and hope to double this by the end of summer. Although, it has been progressing a bit slower than I intended, I am still more on less on track. The storyline is crystallizing, which I expect will permit me to make more rapid progress in the future. What I am enjoying most of this writing project is that it is allowing me to explore my creativity in very on-linear ways. For instance, I envision a story which is compromised of two volumes can be read in any order (consecutively, in reverse order or alternaely) yet still convey the story. So I’m looking forward to playing around with this literary concept as the book writing process progresses.
- Ning Ning (which means slepy in Bajan dialect) 😴– Which will be my sophomore anthology of children’s bedtime stories is coming along beautifully. Nine of the ten stories are drafted along with several illustrations. I’m planning to finalize the book draft by the summer and then focus on the book cover design. My current thinking it is to make it a companion to my debut children’s bedtime story book to encourage parents and grandparents to purchase both books.
- Literary festivals & competitions 📚 – I will be attending the OCM Bocas Literature Festival in Trinidad from May 1st to 4th. This will be my first ever literary festival so I’m super excited. On top of this I’m planning to enter a few literary competitons in the coming months in the hopes of ‘breaking through’ and becoming more established as a writer. I will be sure to share a blogpost or two about my literary competition journey so stay tuned for that!
- Instagram Page Launch 🎉– In late March I finally pulled the trigger and launched my Bookstagram account. It has been exciting (and somewhat nervewracking) to explore this platform for connecting with readers and supporters of my writing. I’m still learning the ropes but I expect it will lead to many unexpected opportunities. So please follow me on Instagram – my handle is kiran_dellimore_writes!
